Mary Stokes MA, LLB
After completing degrees in history (B.A. Toronto, M.A. Western Ontario) and law (LLB, Western Ontario), Mary began practising law at Legge and Legge on her call to the bar of Ontario in 1983, focusing mainly on family law. Now a firm partner, she works primarily in the areas of wills, trusts, estate administration and charitable corporations. Mary is a doctoral student at the Osgoode Hall Law School of York University and has served as a lecturer in the Law and Society programme at York and as an adjunct professor of the law of Trusts at Osgoode. She is a published legal historian, and was a McMurtry Fellow in Canadian Legal History and recipient of the Osgoode Society’s Peter Oliver prize. She has written for and lectured in continuing legal education programs, and provides legal information seminars to schools and groups. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History,the Editorial Board of the Canadian Journal of Law & Society, the Board of Directors of the Mabel Knisely Foundation for Nursing Education, and is active in church and community activities.
