Mary Stokes LLB, PHD
After completing degrees in history (B.A Hons. Toronto, M.A. Western Ontario) and law (LLB, Western Ontario), Mary began practising law at Legge and Legge on her call to the bar in 1983, focusing mainly on family law. Now a firm partner, she works primarily in the areas of wills, trusts, and estate administration.
Mary recently completed her doctorate in law at Osgoode Hall Law School. She has served as a lecturer in the Law and Society programme at York University and as an adjunct professor of the law of Trusts at Osgoode. She is a published legal historian, and was a McMurtry Fellow in Canadian Legal History and recipient of the Osgoode Society’s Peter Oliver prize. She has written for and lectured in continuing legal education programs, and provides legal information seminars to schools and groups. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Osgoode Society for Canadian Legal History and the Board of Directors of the Mabel Knisely Foundation for Nursing Education, and is active in church and community activities. Along with her husband, John, she also serves as honorary counsel to the AFC (Actors' Fund of Canada.)
