The son of firm founders Laura and Bruce Legge, John Legge maintains a broad general practice.

John was called to the Bar in 1984 after completing degrees in History at the Universities of Toronto and of Western Ontario, and in Law at Western. An active member of the Ontario Bar and Toronto Lawyers’ Associations and of the Royal Canadian Military Institute, John has also served as Honorary Solicitor of the RCMI, and Chair of the Board of the Ontario Safety League, where he is currently Honorary Counsel. John continues to be involved with a variety of local volunteer service organizations, boards, and charities.

John is a recipient of the Canadian Forces Decoration, Toronto Police Civilian Citation, the Confederation 125 Medal, and the Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Medal. He has instructed in professional and continuing education programs in Civil Litigation, Family Law and professional conduct, and has written several papers in these areas.

John has appeared in all levels of courts and tribunals in Ontario. He has completed advanced courses in mediation, and has extensive experience in medical-dental malpractice and other subjects of civil litigation, family law, and alternate dispute resolution.

After completing degrees in history (B.A. Hons. Victoria University in the University of Toronto, and M.A. University of Western Ontario) and law (LL.B. Osgoode Hall Law School/Western University), Mary Stokes began practising law at Legge & Legge on her call to the bar in 1983. As an associate, she focused mainly on family law; now a firm partner, she works primarily in the areas of estate planning (Wills, Trusts and Powers of Attorney) and estate administration.

After practising part-time for several years and raising a family, Mary completed her doctorate in law at Osgoode Hall Law School.

Mary has served as a course director in the Law and Society programme at York University and as an adjunct professor of the law of Trusts at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is a published legal historian, and was a McMurtry Fellow in Canadian Legal History and recipient of the Osgoode Society’s Peter Oliver prize. She also served for many years as a member of the board of directors of the Society.

She has written for and lectured in continuing legal education programs, and enjoys providing free legal information sessions to schools and groups. Along with her husband, John Legge, she serves as honorary counsel to the AFC (Actors' Fund of Canada.)

Christine Davidson was called to the Bar in 2012 and joined Legge & Legge in the fall of that year. She practises exclusively in the areas of estate planning,  estate administration, and elder law.  

Christine graduated with an LL.B. from Dalhousie Law School (now the Schulich School of Law) in 2007, and has a graduate diploma in public administration from Dalhousie’s School of Public Administration. She completed her articles with a civil litigation lawyer in Toronto, gaining experience in landlord and tenant law, appeals to the Social Benefits Tribunal, and in child protection law. Christine has a Certificate in Elder Law from Osgoode Hall Law School.

Before embarking on a legal career, Christine raised two sons while working as a researcher and teaching assistant in statistics, program evaluation and economics at both Dalhousie University and the Early Psychosis Unit at the Nova Scotia Hospital.  She continues to be interested in legal issues relating to mental health.

Elizabeth Legge is proud to represent the third generation of lawyers in the Legge family at the firm. She is the granddaughter of founders Laura Legge, QC, and Bruce Legge, QC, and the daughter of current firm partners John Legge and Mary Stokes. Elizabeth joined the firm in 2017, after her call to the bar.

Before beginning her legal studies, Elizabeth graduated with a first class honours B.A. in history and classics from the University of King’s College and Dalhousie University.  She attended law school at Dalhousie University (Schulich School of Law), where she received a Schulich Scholarship, the JSD Tory Writing Award, and the Osgoode Society Prize in Legal History.

While at law school, Elizabeth was involved with Pro Bono Students Canada and worked for a non-profit organization in the area of disability law. She completed her articles with a prominent estate litigation firm in Toronto.

Elizabeth is currently on leave from Legge & Legge and working Pro Bono Ontario.
